TOXIC! Is Your Relationship Poisoning You?. By Nicole Efunnuga
Did you know that your mate could leave for work, get into a car accident and not survive? Do you realize that you can drop off your teenager to school and they can be abducted and never come back home alive? Are you aware that you could pick up your phone and on the other end there could be a voice stating that your mother has passed away? We say out of our mouths that we know those things could happen, but in our hearts we don’t believe. Because if we did, wouldn’t we treat our loved ones better while they were still here with us? As I watched the movie “The Last Song” the other night I was reminded that all we have is right now. The movie was about a rebellious teenager who was mad, cold, and very bitter. She hated her dad for leaving and she was going to show him how much. She couldn’t understand why “irreconcilable differences” had to split up her family. When she was staying with her father for the summer, she learned that he was dying of cancer. All they had was a few months. She turned that anger around into love so quickly and poured everything she had into him, never leaving his side. She took care of him and refused to go back home with her mother after the summer had ended.
I cried profusely as I thought about my dad and how much time I spent not loving him because he disappointed me.
If we truly believe that tomorrow is not promised to us then why oh why do we waste so much time not loving on our loved ones? Figure it out and then turn it around, you should start today.
